Removing Reference Edits

Editing the skin weights on a referenced model created 'explosive' results upon saving and loading again. I had figured out that you can list all edits done to the referenced models and delete selectively, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why my selections weren't deleting.

Then I came across this article.

Seems like you have to UNLOAD your reference first, before any deleting was allowed. -___-

Random Doodle

While waiting for a midnight showing of Avatar (which was f'n spectacular by the way), I killed some time at the office with random doodling. This was one of them.

2010 REEL - Robot Soldier

Here are some silhouettes for the Robot Soldier.

Armor Doodle Shortcut

While I stuffed my face full of Taco Bell "tachos" this afternoon, I found myself doodling on the makeshift place mats a.k.a. junk flyers and ads.

Then it dawned on me.

This is great shortcut for doodling armor pieces! Of course, it's always better to know how to draw the people underneath the armor yourself, but this method should save time. Saving time = Saving money. If not for you, then for your client (which would only help repeat business).

September 2009 Update

Here's a quick update as to what I've been up to. In anticipation for the effects-heavy short film planned for 2010, I've been learning more about physical prop making. From weapons to armor to vehicle interiors etc.

Trying to get a grasp of the sculpting / moldmaking / casting process is actually a lot more fun than trying to troubleshoot a 3d model or rig. It feels like you're actually creating something, rather than just ones and zeros that appear only on screen.

Also found a company called Shapeways that does affordable 3D printing. I almost bought a mini lathe to create my oversized bullet casings, but soon realized that I could create it in 3D and have the prototype printed. Then I could mold and cast duplicates myself using Smooth-On Inc's array of mold + casting materials.

Anyhoo, more updates to come. Check out the two companies mentioned above for more info.
